I recently setup a new NAS, I am computer literate but networking is pretty foreign to me. I have been searching the forums and sites and have yet to come across an answer to my 'seemingly' super slow transfer rate. While cruising the net I see people complaining of 1mb/s-2mb/s transfer rates for small files but yet I am avging 20-50 kb/s. This seems rather strange and Im really not sure if its simply the amount of small files or something else. I can transfer a large file 850mb at 60mb/s, but when I attempt to transfer a folder containing 33k small files, it slams on the brakes to 22-60kb/s.
When I transfer that same folder from the 8tb external HDD USB to my internal HDD its around 200kb/s still rather slow but still much faster then 22kb/s.
The folder is about 1TB containing 33k files. I have the NAS volume in RAID1 at 9.78TB. It has completed syncing the drives.
Is this just the folder from hell? or should it be faster?
I have heard mention that it would be better to zip the files at zero compression and then unzip on the other side, but still feel like I may be missing something and I would like to figure it out or t least know that I need a new plan to back up this folder and my NAS is running at optimal performace.
Any advise would be great.
