Hi all. I've been researching Asustor products lately after reading some great reviews on the new AS3102T over at TomsHardware and I'm impressed. http://forum.asustor.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8128
So as my subject says I'm a current Synology user since 2012 and I might be a switcher. I've been happy with Synology up to their DSM 5.2 firmware which ended early this year. DSM is Synology's version of Asustor's ADM OS. However since they updated to DSM 6 things have been unreliable, slow, and haywire. Also my DS214play NAS model is showing its age too fast for my liking. I've definitely been concerned for the integrity of my data too even on backups which take a very long time to complete in the latest DSM version. I've gone back to using an old 2009 model Mac mini running Yosemite server and external 4TB hard drives. Hey it just works (for real) and Plex runs so smooth and quickly. Imagine on an older Core2Duo Intel chip! Anyway I was wondering if there are other Synology users here or expats and why you switched to Asustor. I'd be interested on your take having used both brands and systems. Thanks.

Hmmm, not very encouraging. Not one single reply or even a simple welcome hello.

only reason i switched was for the hdmi port and xbmc, but i dont use it anymore cos it was disappointing when xbmc lost support. plex works great! I have the 602t, works for me.

AS3102T fully supports Kodi (the new XMBC) which is great. I can't say about Synology, I only used Asustor (for now ?).
Welcome here by the way, as you can see this part of the forum isn't really animated (especially in summer).

Thanks for the Welcome. I pop into the Asustor forums at least once a day. Its certainly nowhere near as active as the Synology forums. Not sure if its because a significantly smaller membership or perhaps Asustor ADM doesn't have nearly as many problems as Sinology's DSM.

Re: Newbie and current Synology user maybe switching to Asustor
Welcome! I have been using Asustor AS7004T and AS-604T for over 3 years and they are reliable and fast. I have Synology DS214play at the same time. Synology has far more functionalities but hardware side, I am quite dubious because DS214play constantly inaccessible for no reason and I have to force power off the unit from time to time to get it back to operation. Asustor NAS is with less functions but quite reliable in operation for these years.

Re: Newbie and current Synology user maybe switching to Asustor
I just picked up an AS3102T for $199. So now I have that and a Synology DS214play also. I will be setting my Asustor this weekend. I'm looking forward to comparing the two. Obviously the AS3102T is more powerful hardware. I'm very interested in comparing ADM and DSM OS.
