Mopidy

"Mopidy plays music from local disk, Spotify, SoundCloud, Google Play Music, and more. You edit the playlist from any phone, tablet, or computer using a range of MPD and web clients."

Mopidy is an enhancement to the MPD music playback system that integrates many different sources. Adding this to the Asustor NAS software would allow users, like me, who want to be able to play music through their NAS to their stereo without having to have a TV or connected monitor in order to interact for the music playback. Instead they can use their cell phone, tablet, or if they choose a standard PC, to play the music, and they don't have to keep an app open, or a browser window open, or even keep any of them powered on, Mopidy will handle the queue and playback independently!

The best part of Mopidy is it has an extensive plugin architecture that allows for the addition of the latest music streaming services. For me, that means the ability to easily stream lossless compression from my TIDAL account.

Just for clarification: You want tu run Mopidy on your NAS? Does your NAS has audio out or do you want to use HDMI?

Mopidy runs fine, for example, on a Raspberry Pi or a Beaglebone Black with an external DAC (digital audio converter) connected to your home stereo. It comes with it's own web server (or MPD) to be controlled via mobile devices.

Making this useful and high quality (f.e. your NAS is where your stereo is at) you will need an external USB DAC connected to the Asustor wired to your home stereo and some packages not yet avail for the Asustors like g-streamer, a bunch of dev packages (see opkg list *dev* and a couple of others https://docs.mopidy.com/en/latest/installation/source/) before pip'in the packages will work.

If you really want to go high fidelity why not thinking about a fanless Raspi and a fine DAC like the https://www.hifiberry.com/dacplus?
Im using a Beaglebone Black, a chinese DAC/DSP going via Chinch into a my B1 AMP and quality stereo speakers at my living room whereas the NAS is located far away.

Nevertheless.. Getting Mopidy up and running on the Asustors will be possible when the main gstreamer libs gets avail i think.
