New Asustor user arriving

Post by Nittenti »

Hello,

I just bought the Asustor AS-604T - birthday gift to myself :D

I ordered 4 WD Red 2TB and 2GB extra memory and I'm planning to run RAID5.

Main use for my new baby is storing pictures (80k+), family stuff (primarily office stuff) and movies, tv series and music. It will be used as network storage for family and as mediacenter

My 1st question: How big difference is it to expand from 1GB to 3GB memory ?
AS-604T (3GB RAM) with 4*WD Red 2TB in RAID5
Not the HTPC I thought I bought!
I wonder when Asustor is gonna throw some ressources/manpower/knowledge getting it to work, we did pay a decent amount of money for this - for the moment piece of furniture!

I am NOT that heavy user but I do use photo gallery XBMC most of the time and I feel that 1gb is quite sufficient for me. Maybe you can run more apps at the same time more smoothly.

Nice setup. Those Red drives are great, I've had 2 4TB Reds running for a year without any issues...and boy are they quiet.
80K+ family photos is what I'm probably around.
I have an External 4TB USB drive that I use for backups, as well as backups via rsync.

I also use the NAS as a Time Machine backups point for my two Apple laptops.

You'll love this little NAS. Oh, and you even have to deal with ASUSTOR Support, they are awesome.
