Hi Clinton!
I bought a AS-606T and filled it with 6x 4TB WD REDs. Two volumes, VOL1 is JBOD and VOL2 in RAID5.
Unfortunately, VOL1 has a bad drive. Now I'm like a bunny in the headlights - unsure about how to fix without loosing data/config.
Eeeeek!

Re: hi Folks, looking to buy!
JBOD doesn't have any backup/redundency. I don't believe you will be able to recover any data on that drive, but the other drives in the Vol1 should still work fine.
If you need assistance getting this running again, You should raise a support ticket with Asustor. There might be something they can do to assist with ensuring you don't loose any data on the remaining disks.

Re: hi Folks, looking to buy!
Thanks Clinton,
Luckily the source for the majority of the content is my old Windows Home Server I'm migrating from.
The concerns I have are more about what happens to the server if I "deconstruct" the JBOD VOL1 that I thought the ASM resided on.
I have enough space to move the data from VOL1 over to VOL2 - and replace the bad drive.
Here's something I just thought of - having VOL2 as RAID5 and VOL1 as JBOD is basically the same as having all 6 drives in RAID5. Am I thinking right? If so, maybe I should just do that?
It's all just a little perplexing...

all 6 drives in RAID5 is not a good idea, it only increase the chance of failure and increased time to rebuild the RAIDbrendanheyu wrote:Thanks Clinton,
