Greetings from Merrie England

Post by Gromit »

Hi all. Just dropped in to say hello and introduce myself. I'm an ageing itinerant IT guy getting close to retirement and thought I'd treat myself to a NAS box for all my personal data as well as my business records. Having supplied/installed several QNAPs for clients I was going for another until Asustor caught my eye. I liked the look of them and went for a little 302T with a couple of 1TB WD Red drives running RAID1. So far I'm very impressed, mainly by it's speed, the OS and the range of apps.

I've only got a couple of PCs talking via my LAN to it so far - remote access has yet to be set up - but the aim is to use it for streaming media to my connected TV, access it from all my Android devices and use it as a central datastore when I eventually retire and move everything across to Linux boxen. I've had Microsoft right up to here and propose putting as much distance as I can 'twixt me and them once I'm fully retired.

I'll try not to ask too many daft questions and look for answers first - meantime treat an old fart gently, will you? :)
