AS-304T Owner from the Netherlands

Post by covales »

Hi,

I own an AS-304T with 4 * 4TB Seagate NAS hd's in raid5. The combination is quit at the moment (all components are new :D ) and therefore its placed near my AV-receiver. What i liked is that i can dim the lights (only the Status led glows at half strength) but that they function normally when the drive is waking up or restarts. I choose the 4 bay model instead of a 2 bay while the 4 bay has a build in power supply (i don't like lots of power bricks in my living room)

Yes, you already guessed of course, i intend to use the nas dedicated to lots of media.

The new portal funtion is therefore both a blessing and a pain in the ass.
Its a blessing while you can select which app is using the hdmi, its a pain in the ass while it only works with some apps (f.i. it leaves out the audio apps itunes and SoundsGood).
It also supports Chrome and You Tube but since i am only human i don't support two eagle eyes. I really want a Portal that automaticly defaults to XBMC and that also supports a screensaver (a screensaver is not availale in the portal nor in xbmc app).
I also missed a backup function for xbmc. A neccessary Reinstallation xbmc after a portal upgrade took some time since you can add lots of additional functionality to xbmc.
(I guess Asustor will work on this, now XBMC status changed from Beta app to Asustor app. And maybe they can integrate some apps too, my first candidates would be the portal and the remote apps and maybe also the X.org app)

For these reasons (selection possibilities, the missing screensaver and xbmc backup) i still use my external mac mini based htpc instead of the buildin hdmi.

Overall i am still happy with the nas, but i am also expecting some improvements.

On the forum i miss a subforum for "other apps" under "3rd party apps"

I have a 202TE and it is working really well - but the screensaver is a MUST DO item otherwise there will be very grumpy ASUSTOR owners in not too long after inevitably the tv gets left on and plasmas love image retention....
