File Explore - Creating a share link ** FEATURE ADDED **

Post by neat »

Hello

When I create a share link, ADM generates a link like this

http://Your IP Address:Port/portal/apis/fileExplorer/share_link.cgi?link=.../

I think ADM should support DDNS hostname or Domain name for share links.
Since most users have dynamic IPs, IP addresses can be changed while sharing links

Thanks

One more vote!!! This sounds more reasonable with domain name instead of dynamic IP address which is subject to change without prior notice...

In ADM 2.0.3 RAH1,
You will see now your DDNS hostname when you create a share link.
Also share links created before will be automatically appied.

It seems that it has the priority like this.

1. YourID.myasustor.com
2. Your DDNS hostname
3. Your real IP address

Unfortunately you cannot just choose one or change the order.
Also, there is no option for your own domain.

However, it won't be a problem for most users

Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for your test and feedback.
We designed the system to select an appropriate Internet connection automatically.
And as you said, this sure fulfill for most users.
For user who has it's own domain, we may need to think another way...
Again, thank you for the great feedback.
Cheers,

Please think another way ;) . I would prefer my registered domainname over the current ip address, especially as the IP address isn't mine...

Thanks.

I tried now with sharelink to Internet and the sharelink is with domain name and not IP address any more. I have the latest firmware: 2.0.3 RAH1.

How to use your own registered domain name with Share Links:
Setup the DDNS settings (Settings, Easy Access)
Prrovider: dyndns.org
Username: test
Password: test
Hostname: www.yourowndomainname.org
Ip check: 24h
As the check for the public IP works just fine, apparently the NAS thinks the last DDNS update was a success ( even though the provided credentials at the DDNS provider are completely bogus). Created a Share Link to test if your domain name is used.
