I have recently upgraded from my 1-bay Synology to an ASUSTOR AS-602T. I use a wireless connection from my Windows 8 laptop to the wireless router (using the 5GHz bandwidth). The AUSTOR is hardwired with Cat6 cable to the router.
Previously, I could transfer files from PC to NAS at around 20-24 MB/s. Now, with the ASUSTOR, it is around 4-6 MB/s. FTP connections work just as well now as they did before, it is only the CIFS/SAMBA connection that is slow.
When will ASUSTOR improve their implementation of the Windows File Service to maximise transfer speeds?
Regards
Gary

hmmm something wrong there somewhere, I can get good speeds from mine
copying 20gigs from sata drive on a windows 8 pc to share on asustor

You are right. I just can't figure it out. Nothing has changed but the NAS.

Re: CIFS/SMB performance very slow
Yes. I get 'normal' speeds when using FTP.
I assume that, because of this, my wireless connection to my router and the CAT6 connection from the NAS to the router is OK. So it must be something in the NAS and its implementation of the CIFS/SMB protocol.
Synology had bad CIFS/SMB performance until they upgraded their SMB to v2. Windows 8 uses SMB v3, but is backwards compatible to v2 and v1.
I'm not even sure where to look to troubleshoot.

Re: CIFS/SMB performance very slow
weird , hopefully someone in the team will come along with some ideas, are you running latest firmware?
In my case i have in the windows networking enabled local master browser and also set a workgroup name, I am also running my two network ports aggregated, have you tried only plugging in one network cable and then swapping it to different port?

Re: CIFS/SMB performance very slow
Thanks. I really appreciate your replies.
I am running the latest firmware. I have tried Local Master Browser enabled and disabled. Not sure what this really does. It doesn't seem to make a difference. Workgroup names are the same.
I will try the other link (I am not using them aggregated).
[edit] I tried the other Ethernet port and it gave the same result.
[edit] I tried a 500Mbps Powerline connection direct to the router. No difference. If I can find a long enough Ethernet cable, I will try that, but I am not hopeful it will improve things.
[edit] Just for your information, this is what Synology say about their new operating system and SAMBA performance:
File Services for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux
SMB2 Protocol Support for Windows File Service -- SMB 2 protocol has general improvements to allow for better network utilization.

Re: CIFS/SMB performance very slow
i assume you have RAID1 on your asustor? theoretically RAID1 is slower than single drive so if you only had 20-40 MB/s on a 1bay NAS, then it's not all that weird if you got lower performance on a 2bay NAS (RAID1), but 4-6 MB/s is kinda odd anyway.
Have you tried it with wired network? and does you router equip with gigabit LAN?

Re: CIFS/SMB performance very slow
I am only using a single drive in the ASUSTOR at the moment, so I don't have it in RAID configuration It's a 4TB Seagate.
My router has Gigabit LAN. I haven't tried my PC directly wired with an Ethernet cable (see my other posts). I will try to get one long enough to do that today.
However, the wireless setup I was using with the Synology has not changed and I was able to get much better speeds with it then.
Thanks for your reply.

Hi , if the PC directly wired with Ethernet cable is ok in your configuration ?
