upgrading to Asustor AS5402T
Hi, i am currently running a WD PR2100 NAS for my plex server and I was thinking about upgrading to the Asustor AS5402T. My only question is, will i need to format my drives when i transfer them from the PR2100 to the new NAS? I have 2 28tb hdds. Can the system support them?

Re: upgrading to Asustor AS5402T
Hi,
Part 1 reserved
Part 2 raid 1 (even with missing drive for a single disk) mounted as /dev/md0 on /volume0
Part 3 Raid 1 for swap mounted as /dev/md126
Part 4 Raid X (1 with missing drive) for single disk mounted as /dev/md1 (or X) for DATA
So as is yours drive must be re-formatted.
BUT you can get multiple solutions (all long) ... if possible a backup is the easy and secure way
... use another disk for AS54 ;.. start with one (single) and copy data from WD ... then upgrade to Raid 1
... using network or if you know the partition of the WD, mount it in external USB box, to do local copy.
... if WD used Raid1 and you stop it cleanly , you can (but risky) if able to run in degraded mode ... use the disk extract to use it at new AS drive ... and copy or transfer data.
etc. etc. depends of your Linux skills.
In all case, you can open a ticket on Asustor support to help you migrating using best way.
Philippe.
NAS (Asustor or other brand) generally used a specific format for drive, so when you insert a new drive .. it is formatted.bladeturbo wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 7:28 am Hi, i am currently running a WD PR2100 NAS for my plex server and I was thinking about upgrading to the Asustor AS5402T.
