I'm upgrading from a Drobo as they are now gone and am looking at a AS5404T. I have a full set of HDDs (WD red WD30EFRX) and wondered if they were compatible or not. Already had to send a Synology back as they only support their own rebadged drives (money grabbers!) so wanted to confirm if my drives are compatible or not. Anyone able to confirm either way if they work?
Thanks
AS5404T Drive compatibility

Re: AS5404T Drive compatibility
Oh, yes, the EFRX drives are fully compatible. I used to have four in RAID5 in my AS5304T and I have tried one in my AS5402T. The compatibility list is at https://www.asustor.com/en-gb/service/hd?id=hd but the EFRX are not shown against the 54 series as they're old drives which no-one is going to bother testing in a new NAS.
Asustor makes a major point of allowing its customers to use whatever drives they want. And it's actually hard to see how any SATA drive would not be compatible.
However, they will be formatted by the NAS as part of the setup process so make sure your data are safely backed up before proceeding.
