Hi, first post here. For a little background, I'm a long time Synology user but I need to build a new purpose specific 2 bay NAS and my general NAS is getting pretty old so I was thinking about getting two new NAS devices. When I went to look at all the alternatives Asustor jumped to the top of my list very quickly due to the features and price/performance value. Its pretty clear the Asustor can do pretty much everything my Synology can except one kind of deal-breaker feature that I can't figure out if Asustor supports.
If you're not familiar, Synology has a setup called QuickConnect that appears to work very similar to Asustor EZconnect. You create an account and then when you are not on your home network, you go to [youraccountname].quickconnect.to and when you log in, it dumps you into your NAS in Synology DSM exactly as if you were on your home network. However, QuickConnect serves another purpose. Synology has a backup client application for both Windows and Mac that allow you to set automated backups for PCs and Macs that are NOT on your home network. You download the client application and you use the quickconnect.to service to connect to the NAS.
In my research it appears Asustor doesn't offer a Mac backup client. You are instructed to use Time Machine. And the Asustor Windows backup client appears designed to work over a local network. I've scoured Reddit and Youtube and can't find an answer. I use this tool to back up my parents and siblings computers over the internet to my Synology NAS and its an absolutely critical feature for me. Am I missing something? Does Asustor have a similar feature?
Thanks in advance.
