Nvidia GPU Support + CUDA libraries for LOCKERSTOR Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3

Post by TheBinary1 »

Dear Asustor,

Since Google Photos ended their free services, Asustor took advantage of the policy change.

Today, with 83% of businesses planning for Cloud Repatriation - a new trend that involves the migrtion of workloads from the Public Cloud to Local Self-Hosting machines (https://datacanopy.com/back-to-private-cloud/), Asustor has a new opportunity on its hands.

If the LOCKERSTOR Gen1, Gen2 and Gen3 series that already have PCIe support mainly for https://www.asustor.com/en-gb/product/A ... ging?tab=3 is updated to also support NVIDIA GPUs with CUDA support baked into the ADM Linux Kernel; Asustor would become the ONLY game in town as a NAS brand to support Devs with Docker, VirtualBox, and CUDA to further drive On-Site Training of AI Models as emphasised for the LOCKERSTOR Gen3.

I hope ADM gets empowered with these capabilities to not only be applied to LOCKERSTOR Gen3 NASes but be made backwards compatibale to the previous LOCKERSTOR Gen2 and Gen1 built with the Intel Celeron J3455, Intel Celeron J4125, and Intel Celeron N5105 CPUs.

Thankyou!

The problem is that standard GPU cards won't fit the chassis. The slot may be standard PCIe3/4 but there's no back panel slot for the HDMI & DP connectors to poke out through. It would need a custom card and that's just not going to sell enough to be economically viable.

Hmm ... if this is true, a dedicated Expansion Unit complete with PCIe connectors and cooling systems seems like the kind of innovation Asustor would need to productise.

It's completely true. I have an AS6706T plus AS-T10G2 & AS-T10G3 expansion cards so I know. To see it for yourself, scroll down https://www.asustor.com/en-gb/product?p_id=78 until you get to the description of the network ports and you can see the tiny blanking plate just above them.

Also note that the PCIe slot is only x4.
