Are there any plans, to turn on the built in fan only above a given (maybe seletcable) temperature?
Actually there are only some different speed levels selectable.
I think this could dramatitcally reduce the noise level of the NAS and would make it more suitable to small offices or living rooms.

Re: Reducing fan noise
Currently, we provide three levels of fan speed for manually configure
which are all recognized by our thermal laboratory and reach the best balance among noise, fan speed and temperature.
generally speaking, it should not bother you if you put the nas in the living room.
my personal experience is that I put my AS-602T next to my bed, I don't hear any noise while I sleep.
But we still appreciate your suggestion, and definitely will consider this in the future.

Re: Reducing fan noise
Just purchased your 602T NAS and I must say that Im dissapointed of fan noise. I can hear "vvrrrrr" sound of electro motor of fan even on low speed and its pretty annoying. I think I will have to replace that fan with some better and more silent one. This is not good beging with ASUSTOR brand for me.

Hi majkl83,
Is it possible that you can provide us a short audio clip regarding the fan noise you mentioned? We would like to investigate this issue.
Cheers,
JW

Re: Reducing fan noise
Hello James,
Im sending you sound of my room when only my silent PC is enabled and second sound of my room when NAS is running. Its recorded by professional equipment and approx 1 meter from NAS. I also remind that Im using very silent 2 WD Red hard drives that are almost inaudible.

Re: Reducing fan noise
Thanks a lot. Our mechanical engineer has analyzed it and he thinks it doesn't sound like when the fan is rotating at low speed. Therefore, we wonder if it's possible that you can provide us the followings:
1. CPU temperature (in System Information)
2. System temperature (in System Information)
3. HDDs temperature (in Storage Manager -> Disk)
4. Fan speed (in System Information)

Re: Reducing fan noise
1. CPU temp = 43C
2. Sys. temp = 38C
3. HDDs temp = 25C
4. fan speed = 1650rpm
Data were taken after 15 mins. of system powered on.
I think that fan speed could be easily around 1000 with these low temps. I suppose that NAS would become more silent without affecting system stability.

cpu 56c
system 45c
Fan speed 561RPM/557RPM
at a guess your fan is running high for some reason
