I am considering buying an Asustor LOCKERSTOR 4 Gen2 AS6704T.
I want to configure this as follows:
- 4x 2 NVMe hard drives – 4TB (Samsung 990 PRO 4TB Heatsink PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD - MZ-V9P4T0GW). Configured as RAID 5 (3 disk in RAID 5, 1 disk spare). I want to use this RAID 5 area for shared network folders for use over the network.
- I want to combine this with:
- 4x “normal" hard drives - Seagate Ironwolf Pro 4TB - ST4000NT001. Configured as RAID 5 (3 disk in RAID 5, 1 disk spare). Configured as RAID 5 (3 disk in RAID 5, 1 disk spare). I want to use this raid5 for backup the RAID 5 area of the 2 NVMe hard drives.
Is this configuration possible with the Asustor LOCKERSTOR 4 Gen2 AS6704T?
This NAS is equipped with a program to make an planned (for example at night) 1 on 1 backup of the RAID 5 area of the 2 NVMe hard drives tot he RAID 5 area of “normal” hard drives? Does an additional program need to be installed on the NAS for this? If so which one would you recommend?
All advice and suggestions are welcome!
Thank you!

Everything you mentioned above including hot spares is doable on any of the NAS (or with NVMe). For the app you can use the built-in ADM Backup & Restore.

@ Nazar78:
Thanks for your answer! I'm glad to hear that this is all possible.
Did you perhaps also know that the mentioned hard drives (normal hard drives and NVMe hard drives are compatible with the Asustor LOCKERSTOR 4 Gen2 AS6704T? (I mean the mentioned brands and series).
Thanks for the advice and support!

Any new modern NAS should support those NVMes/HDDs even if they're not explicitly listed due to too many and not all being tested which you can have a look here: https://www.asustor.com/en/service/compatibility.
