2025-03-27: closing this out with the following information:
(1) I returned the second in row defective Asustor FS6706T
(2) I purchased a UGreen DXP480T Plus and put the same Western Digital Red SN 700's (2TB each) inside it using the supplied anchor screws instead of the flimsy plastic anchors which break off easily on the Asustor unit.
(3) The UGreen booted up with zero effort and problems, immediately recognized my 2 x WD SN 700's. The GUI screens in the supplied Windows 11 compatible setup that followed were pretty easy to navigate (for a non-hardware guy like me) and set up the system in RAID1 configuration for the single storage pool and single volume within that storage pool.
(4) I set up a Shared Folder and mapped it to both my computer and my wife's computer as S:\ with next to zero effort (since I'm nearly an expert at PowerShell) via a Scheduled Task that runs at login.

In the end, the UGreen unit was plug-n-play vs. the Asustor's plug-n-pray disaster. Life is good.
