Auto Sleep S3

Post by mangruva »

How come there is no way to Auto Sleep S3 after inactivity? I saw that information on the Asustor website.
I know there is an auto hibernate option, but I want the power to be less than 1 watt in the Sleep mode.
I use this NAS periodically and when done with it, I want it to go back to sleep, not hibernate.

Is there any workaround or add-on that can create this option?
Thank you.

I woluld appreciate this function, too!
What I see is, that, when power-off-schedule kicks in, the NAS shuts down. Whithout any request or regardless of who is currently connected and transferring files! That is kinda not cool

My drive does go to spin down hibernate after my specified period of inactivity, so obviously it does recognize the point in which there are no more read/write requests. But why can't it be set to go to sleep at that point instead?

Does anyone have an init.d script that uses the NASsleep command to automatically have the Nas sleep after a period of inactivity ?

I'm interested too in this function. In my opinion, Auto Sleep and hdmi are the killer apps that distinguish Asustor from other brands (and also the price...).
I decided to buy the As-302t model because i take care about consumptions and i'd love to see a better implementation of S3 mode talking from a user point of view. This means, as said above, an EASY option to force Auto Sleep after a certain period of inactivity. (what if one of my nas users forgets to put the device is suspension? --> auto function is the best choose of course)
Said that, i'm really happy whit asustor and i appreciate their efforts.
Kind regards

I have given Asustor preference over QNAP and Synology only because of low S3 "sleep' power consumption. I did expect an automated function to not only hibernate the disks but to send the system to sleep. I was quite disappointed to discover that this does not exist. Of course there would be the option to create a cronjob, but implementation into ADM should not be too difficult...and match the "power saving options" promises like "one green machine" on ASUSTOR webpage.
I am wondering about the absolute silence on behalf of Asustor... no comment on this feature request.

I think it is not difficult to implement entering S3 automatically and wake it up with WOL. But the difficulty lies in how to wake it up especially from remote. The S3 ( suspend to RAM) for sure consumes much less power compared with hard disk hibernation only as basically the system is shut down.

The lack of response on this topic has been most frustrating.
I wound up returning my Asustor drive.

I scan this forum periodically to see if there is any update on the Auto sleep topic.

They did reply to a previous request:

Lots of people want this, it's possible, lets keep asking! If there's no response here, maybe contact them via their support form, one guy I mentioned it to said it was a good idea and that he'd suggest it to his project manager. If enough people ask we might get a decent response, maybe even an ETA???
