ADM 2.1 and New Archives concept.

Post by space2014 »

hello all

Since I "play" with our new system." how it works ... "
sometimes a little disappointed ... especially after using a Qnap;)

Since the ADM ...the brand new version 2.1 you can
Finally, using HD as Archives : that's very nice...but unfortunately only 2 maximum. Why?

It would be good for any system to have:
Total numbers of bay-1, discs for archiving also for an
608T: 8-1 = 7 possible Archives
Of course ... if you would not use a RAID system from the beginning ;)
Raid is good...but can be relatively expensive... Keep in mind...using special HD for raid, and we should make a backup...that cost too ;)

As we can also give rights to access to HD Archives

it is also much easier when servers are "at Home"
Being clever, you can easily activate automatic backups
... even between two archives!

EDIT :
Forget for the moment what is mentioned in red.
After rebooting the system, you lose the access settings.
You must return each time to the configuration page and reposition the flags of access permissions (directory MyArchive)
Anyway ...
I think I'll return this product to the dealer.
A Product = Hardware * Software;
If Software <1.0, so the use of the system is not acceptable!
How many bugs will I meet prior to its "official service" ?
I do not take the risk!

Here The Info

As mentioned :
" Share terabytes of data
Now, you no longer have to endure slow file transfers over the internet when sharing your multimedia collection with your friends. Have your friend directly plug in one of your MyArchive hard disks to get instant access to terabytes of data..."

What I endured .. Coniste to circumvent bugs in the system for> 2 days
That product is NOT well finished at this time.

End Of "Toy Story" With Toy = "ADM" :!:

I haven't tried it out yet, frankly I think they idea of the MyArchives is good, but I would have liked to see it on the external drives as well.

Frankly it's easier to get a USB 3.0 Drive than it is for me to get the extra drive caddies for the NAS since I can't just got to any store and pick them up and having a gaping hole in my NAS isn't what I want either. Plus when the NAS is actually full of drives I still would like to be able to archive what I have but that feature would then become useless if say my 606T has all 6 Bays occupied with actual RAID drives that are in use 24/7.

François, you have to see that this is a relatively new product compared to any other NAS vendor out there. I'm not giving any excuse for them to give out buggy software and stuff, just remember others have years of experience with trial and error where Asustor is new to the game.

But I agree with you 100% that if the software is released as a final version it should not have bugs in it, and if it does they should be either very minor and if they are large for what ever reason get fixed ASAP.

But if you have issues you seem you can't get working try opening a support ticket. This Forum isn't 100% monitored by Asustor and if you really need help asap you will be faster opening a ticket.
