I need to replace my 606T since it is no longer getting FW updates, been so since 2022.09.05 with the lates FW updat5e being 3.5.9.RWM1.
I can't spend 1700€ on the latest 6 drive NAS AS6806T, but I might spend 900€ on a AS6706T, move the drives currently in the AS606T in to the AS6706T and have an updated machine. Then do staged drive updates over time.
Assuming that will work. (?)
But, I will not do it if the AS6706T only receives FW updates for a couple of years more. I am hoping for at the very least 7-8 years. My AS606T got updates for 9 years with the last update in September 2022.
So I will buy a AS6706T assuming it will get FW updates until 2033. Deal ?
How long will AS6706T receive FW updates?

Re: How long will AS6706T receive FW updates?
I believe Asustor is one of the best for continuing to provide OS updates. Currently, the oldest model still being updated is the AS6302T from 2017. Of those on ADM 4.3.3 which apparently stopped being updated in August, the oldest was the AS6102T from 2015.
There is a new version of the AS6706T about to be released with 5Gbps Ethernet instead of 2.5Gbps but, as that's the only difference, it's reasonable to think the original will get the same OS updates well into the future.

That would be nice... it feels overwhelming to invest in something more expensive if you are replacing it every decade anyhow, sometimes more often. But you want it to be as safe as possible and while I spent about three years not getting FW updates, the 606 was never open to anything but my own lan and only ever was anything but secondary backup. Would be nice to perhaps do something more with next NAS version.
