I need a bit of help please

Hi there
I am new in the club of Asustor so I do not know all the tricks yet but hopefully over time I will learn.

So I had a few days with my Lockerstore 4 Gen 2 and everything was fine. I have 4 IronWolf 8TB pro and they work fine.

And today I turned on my Lockerstore 4 to continue my great move with some more files and disk 4 has a CRC Error and I do not know how to fix this please help.

Some info. I run 3 drives in RAID5 ETX4 and 1 Drive as a single EXT4 drive. I never put any data on the single drive (drive 4)

Please remember that I am new to this so dumb it down please.

Turn off the NAS, try reinsert it. Run the SMART scan, check its results, if the issue persist and it's a new disk, you should get it RMA.

It did not help, but now I can see that it says this: SYSTEM (DISK) There is a media error on sector 524297 of the slot 4 disk!
does this tell anything?

It means the disk has bad sector, modern disks will usually map it off to a usable spare area but there's no guarantee it will spread in the future. I would get it replaced before putting any valuable data on it.

Mine has just developed the 'Media Error' issue on one of my newish drives which is only a couple of months old.

Just watched one of the Asustor YouTube demo's on replacing a failed NAS HD, but mine has the M.2 Cache SSD's, so I don't think I can just remove a HD without unmounting these first?

I'm running a S.M.A.R.T and Bad Block Scan again just to see if it's repeatable, if not I'll unmount the SSD Cached Drives and remove, reinsert Drive 8 and see if it goes as suggested above.

When you do remove the drive, have a look at its build date. I would be very surprised if it is only a couple of months old as EFRX drives haven't been made for at least four years and I have a 6TB EFRX with a serial number that starts WD-WX112 that was made in July 2014.

A quick google shows that you're right about needing to unmount the cache before replacing the drive (if one believes the AI overview....). Be aware that this can take days!

Yeah, it does take a while but once unmounted do i physically need to remove them are technically they are not part of the system?

Just checked Amazon and bought in June this year, not sure if the software will show the build date?

Just logged on and it's showing as both inactive, so I take it from that that I can safely remove Disk 8 and check it out?

Would formatting it on another PC take care of the 'Media Error', so that when it's reinserted it will automatically check and format it itself?

There's no need to remove the m.2 SSDs. As you rightly say, they're no longer active.

No, the build date is not visible to software so please look at the physical drives. The one you showed in your first post clearly claims to be EFRX but what you bought should be EFPX, the successor to the EFRX. Were the drives sold by Amazon itself or the marketplace? Are you sure drive 8 is one of those three and not your original batch?
