Connection issues...

Post by jccman »

Hi,

I own a AS1102T, and right now I struggle with some connections. However, the web access (ezconnect) and ACC (Asustor Control Center) can connect. However, some connections don't work.
- Although the ACC connects, I can't do anything with it. The re-start is greyed. I tried to 'wake' up it (WOL), but not better.
- The ping from my PC does not work.
- The access with Windows File Explorer does not work.
- I used to access some video files with VLC from my TV (connected with a hub to the NAS), but now I can't...

With the web access, I re-started the NAS. I also manually turned it off and on again, but same thing.

These connections used to work, but now it doesn't, not sure why. The only change is the internet scheme with my ISP, but the router is the same, so it does not seem related...

I also tried to restart my PC, but not better.

Any thoughts?

Thanks a lot!

How is your NAS getting its IP address? Is it getting it via DHCP from the router or have you fixed it in the NAS?

Thanks for your reply.
Not sure I remember how I have set up the connection, but accessing my router, it seems to be 'static'. Is there a way to set it with the ADM?
Also accessing my router, it shows 'Not connected'. Not sure why... I will try to find a way to force my router to connect to it, but is it possible to do it in the ADM?
Thanks.

It is possible to fix the IP address within ADM but it's a very bad idea as you then have to edit a file on all your clients so they know what it is. Best practice is to fix the IP address within the router so you know what it's going to be and the router tells all the other clients what it is. If the router thinks it is static then that's probably what you've done.

I think your best option may be to briefly press the reset button on the back on the NAS but make sure you read the manual about what it does first.

I'm having a similar problem with a new AS110LT.

It shows up in Control Center but when I click on the 'initialize' the browser times out and doesn't connect. I've tried this on 3 different macs, direct hookup, hooked up to router, from phone and none will initialize the NAS. Every time I click on the unit it times out the browser. I've tried 3 different browsers, different cables and am running out of options.

The unit has a new Seagate 12tb drive and an older 8tb drive inside, all lights are green on the front.

What else can I try?

With the NAS connected to the router, does ACC give the IP address of the NAS? If it does, can you ping it?
Open your browser and enter <IP address>:8000 - what happens?
If that doesn't work, a long push on the reset button at the back of the NAS is the next thing to try.

Thanks for your reply. In the meantime, I tried something which seems to work. My NAS is connected to a powerline device plugged in mains. Although all its LEDs were green, I unplugged it and plugged it back, and now it works... Before the ezconnect already worked, so maybe this uses a protocol which was not crashed on the powerline device, while other protocols were crashed. I don't know, just thinking... Thanks anyway.

It shows up in control centre as 'unitialized' and when I click on the listing it opens the IP address in Safari with the port as :80001.
I've tried copying that address into different browsers on 2 different macs and even tried it with port :8000, which is what the manual says.
Also tried hitting the reset button but the same IP and problem comes up.

It always times out and says the server is unavailable.
Ping in terminal says 'unknown host'

Problem solved - reset the USB ethernet hub to DHCP with the NAS unit attached and it now communicates with the box.
Though it did tell me that the address was unsafe.

Sorrygzapper, I'm confused... From your posts it looks you can access my NAS? Or maybe I misundwerstood?
Also what do you mean with 'reset the USB ethernet hub'?
Thx
