Hi,
Hoping someone can help me make up my mind on which NAS to get.
The AS-302T looks great, and I see in the specs it 'sleeps' at 0.8W. Will it go into this sleep mode automatically after a certain amount of time in hibernation (disk idle), on a schedule, or is this a mode that must be activated manually?
Also, I have 2 x 3TB drives that I wish to use as independent volumes, I take it I can do this by setting them up as 'single' disks. Would I be able then to back up one volume to the other, say on a weekly schedule.
I did look through the user guide but couldn't find the answers, if anyone could help answer any I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

Re: Two Questions
Hi - Both can be done:
See attached screenshots for the answer on your first question. It's very flexible.
About the back-ups: you should be able to do remote sync or ftp backup up using the NAS as destination (using the internal IP address). You can configure which drive/folder is used for the backups.

Re: Two Questions
Hi Hooky,
@braaam: Thanks for the screenshots!
Sleep mode can be configured both manually and via schedule. As for your backup question, you can simply create a scheduled backup to your own NAS as braaam describes. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thanks,
Allen

Re: Two Questions
Hey Braaam and Allen,
Thanks for the replies.
That pretty much answers my questions.
Maybe as a feature request, I'd like to suggest that an option to enter sleep after a certain amount of time would be great (like some of the synology NAS). Any chance that if you schedule it to sleep, if you wake it by accessing the drive, that it will again return to sleep automatically if its still within the schedule?
Also, good to know it can be done, but looking from the outside that method of backing up to a second volume looks a little unintuitive -just some feedback!
I have another question! Is there any UK based support, or any plans for such?
Thanks again,
Hooky

Re: Two Questions
Hi Hooky,
We will definitely take your feature request into consideration. However, you can still configure your Hard disks to go into hibernation after a certain amount of time if not in use.
Yes, I agree that the backup method may not be that intuitive. But most of our users who wish to have backup for their storage volumes will just go ahead and create a RAID volume with their multiple disks.
Currently, our tech support is all based in our head office. We usually respond to issues within 24 hours or less.
Thanks for your interest!

Re: Two Questions
The difference being, (according to the specs) that hibernation runs at 13W, sleep at 0.8W. As far as I can see, if it's in hibernation, or disc idle, it might as well be in sleep!Allen@AST wrote: ...you can still configure your Hard disks to go into hibernation after a certain amount of time if not in use.
Allen
These are great power consumption figures, beating most other NAS -especially for the processing power, it's just a shame for me that it won't drop into sleep automatically, thus it won't get used.
Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.

Re: Two Questions
Hi,
May be a little bit late but I would like to add some precisions for further readers concerning the sleep mode.
YES, the slep mode can be scheduled. But if you do that, the NAS will enter in sleep mode in any case, even if it's currently used. No chance if you are backing up or reading a video!
NO, the sleep mode can not be automated (after a certain delay of inactivity).
And NO, you can not wake up the NAS by simple access. Only with a WakeOnLAN utility (magic frame).
It would be definitively a good idea to implement these features, no? Because in that state, the sleep mode is not very usefull.

Re: Two Questions
For NAS go to sleep mode, i can see the LED turn RED. However, can i confirm how to tell if the HDD is in hibernation mode? I have set the HDD to hibernation after 5 mins.. but after 5 mins i can see the LED are still GREEN on the HDD as well as the power button..

Re: Two Questions
It's not is it! Sleep and the off state are functionally too similar. Sleep should be a lighter state that can be woken by folder access. Could you post here:matock wrote: It would be definitively a good idea to implement these features, no? Because in that state, the sleep mode is not very usefull.

It might encourage some action on Asustor's part if we keep that thread going.
And yes, an indication of disc idle would be good too.

Re: Two Questions
No there is no specific LED indication. You can just hear that the HDD are silent, and the consumption falls to 13w (plug a watt-meter).tcfip wrote:For NAS go to sleep mode, i can see the LED turn RED. But be aware, it could be more than 5 mins clock. The NAS itself can access to the HDD for its internal needs (monitoring, backup, scheduler, other apps, etc...). The hibernate will start only after 5 mins of HDD inactivity.
