I am a typical home user not a techie. I have a LAN consisting of all Windows computers (Win7,Win10, & Win11). I have just purchased an AS1102TL. I am impressed and overwhelmed with the options and capabilities, overwhelmed being the key word. I purchased it as an easy way to add network drives to my home network. I currently have a single 12 TByte HDD installed in it and it is working.
My question is : How do I turn all the bells, whistles, and security off so that it will act the same as a direct connect network hard drive (e.g., Western Digital MyBook)? No passwords required, accessible to everyone in the family from any computer on the LAN. The only possible restriction would be that it is not accessible via internet.
I am currently using Cobian Backup software. It cannot write to the drive installed in the AS1102TL. Every time I try to set up the tasks for a Cobian backup and try to put in the destination, which is the drive in the AS1102TL, it asks for the name and password. This allows me to enter the destination. However, when the task runs, it says it cannot create the directory needed on the destination drive.
While useing Windows file explorer, I can create directories and can drag and drop files to the AS1102TL without passwords being asked or required.
Confused & perplexed, help appreciated !!!

Re: New User
I think the only way to turn off all access security would be to enable the guest account. But this would mean there are no private areas on the NAS. Can you try that then report back on whether it does what you need?
To block internet access make sure EZ-Connect and port forwarding are not enabled.
The Asustor College is worth a look if you do want to do things 'properly': https://www.asustor.com/online/college

Re: New User
Turning on the guest account took care of the problem. The backup program is working and the other computers can get into the new HDD without having to log in. Thanks for the help. Now I can start exploring all the other features that come with the AS1102TL. Merry Christmas !!!
