Replace Disk Single Mode by bigger

Post by macalasustor »

Hi Guys,

I've bought 2 new disks bigger than my previous ones.
There are configured in Single Mode not in RAID.

How is the better way to transfert date from the actual to the future disk ?

Thanks

The only way is to copy the data to an external drive, replace the drive(s) in the NAS then copy the data back.

Thanks Snapshot for the response.

Du you think I can replace the disk without tranfer data.
And mount the small disk as external drive, and copy the datas to the NAS with the bigger disk ?

That may well work as the NAS should recognise the old drive as formatted in EXT4 and accept it as an external drive. I would still want my data backed up as a precaution for the first one, just in case.

It's not so easy.

Replacing the SMALL disk by the BIG disk, ADM not seen as new disk, it seems you shoud erase the existing volume to create anoter.

Trying to read the SMALL disk by USB (on a dock), not seen anything. It seems datas are encrypted (as well with ext4)

Next step, duplicate disk to disk using clonezilla on my PC.

Keep in touch

Duplicating disk to disk with Clonezilla didn't work.

You right, I've to back up all datas, and create volumes from scratch.
