6404T user - My NAS tanked.

Post by kenbjammen »

Hello,

New to the forum, but have had my 6404T and it was working fine for 3 years up until yesterday when everything started going south. (

Couldn't log into ADM and kept getting this message you are not authorized to use this service. Interestingly at that point, the reset button on the back didn't work and I couldn't hold the power down to restart the NAS. I am thinking something internal went as on boot it gets stuck on startup. I was able to do a factory reset, but when ADM comes back on line I get the same message after I Log in "you are not authorized to use this service"

So my real question is, I sent a message to support, and I am wondering what the average turnaround time is for a reply? (My gut tells me something hardware-related died.)

Thanks everyone

Power off, unplug from wall, remove and then reseat the HDDs and RAM, turn back on and see if your issue is resolved. Failing that, turn off and unplug again, remove the HDDs, turn back on, see if you get any further. Unlikely but worth a shot.

I got a reply after less than a day when I was dealing with them, but I'd say give it 48hrs before following up. Tomorrow is Labour day though, so maybe give it 72hrs.

Thanks Ilike2burn, had done that. I think I was hacked. When I did the factory reset, I had an old Dell keyboard plugged into the USB port. When I did a factory reset and then had nothing plugged into any USB port, the factory reset worked just fine. I am back and running and restored from the backup.

On a side note, I received a response from support that gave me the file to flash, but no instructions. I am going to keep that handy just in case I ever need it.

I am glad that I backup my backup :D

Thanks!
