Hello I just joined, because I just got my first ever Asustor NAS the Lockerstor Gen 2 (AS6704T). I was a bit sad & angry to see my previous NAS go, but such things happen. At least this time it wasn't the drive that failed, and I was able to recover all of my data from the drive in my previous NAS, so nothing was lost, which means I suppose means I was a bit happy as well. It was probably the 4th or maybe 5th NAS I've had in my whole life. They never seem to last very long for some reason.
Anyway this time I decided if I'm gonna get a NAS I'm gonna do it right and get one that has the capacity for more than one drive, and doesn't come with that drive already preinstalled that limits me to that size drive forever, or at least until it dies on me. So here I am with my brand new NAS all decked out, with 4 identical HDD's, 4 identical M.2 SSD's for caching, and upgraded 16GB memory. I also decided that it was best that I get a uninterruptible power supply for it as well. Especially since I think that's part of what cause my last NAS to fail, since I have been having at least one or two power blinks a week for the last two months now.
My electric company is aware of the issue, and is actively investigating the cause to figure out why the blinks keep occuring as they definitely shouldn't be occuring so frequently. I've been told in the past that the system is setup so that if say an animal like a squirrel reaches from one line to another and causes a cross connection between them, the system automatically detects the issue and is set to kick the electric off to allow the animal (or whatever) to fall free of the live wires, and then kick the power back on up to 3 times in a row to try to eliminate the cross connection. If after 3 times the issue is still detected then the power will be shut off by the system and stay off sending a notice to the company to find the problem and eliminate it to restore power. Supposedly if it didn't kick off like this then the squirrel would just be stuck there holding onto two live wires being shocked or cooked to death from the inside out like we have seen happen to stupid people who play on live electric wired in videos in the internet. Either way it's highly unlikely that ever single week one or two squirrels a week are being fried between these wires causing it to disconnect the power to allow them to fall free.
Anyway I think that's probably enough from me as I've rambled on for hit now. So I look forward to conversing with all of you.
Have a great day!

Re: Hello I'm new here, how are you?
Welcome and good choice of NAS. I have an AS6706T with the new combo card so I have just two M.2 drives as Volume1. The way I use my NAS means I won't benefit from caching and having the OS on SSD means the HDDs spin up much less often.
