One of the reasons I got the AS-302T is the hardware 1080p H264 encoder that comes with the intel integrated chip. However, having done some testing with the PLEX transcoding engine, this chip isn't being used for transcoding in the plex server that is supplied through the app center.
See this thread for info: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/top ... ntry471598
Is this something that will be supported in the future? Or are there other packages that do support hardware on-the-fly transcoding? It seems that there is currently no broad support for this encoding chip which is a shame.

Re: hardware transcoding
The plex app is maintained by plex. On the forum you posted they indicated they will try and support this, but first the HW transcoding has to be implemented in ffmpeg, then plex can try and offer the support. Once that happens, they will update the app for Asustor and then you will be laughing.
So... The first step is to ask these questions over at ffmpeg.

Re: hardware transcoding
Well, I figured Asustor might have an interest as well to support this, so I'm asking if they might consider helping to get this supported. It would be a great selling point for these NAS-es!clinton.hall wrote:The plex app is maintained by plex.
