Much like the current system that can be setup to email or SMS a message when a set threshold for CPU or Hard drive utilization:

Under thresholds add a granularized option for file change controls for ransomware protection. Options by size, quantity or system performance. If the threshold is broke then option to shut down unit.
Potentially add a second service that monitors the first. Should service get disabled the unit shuts down.

This would've saved a lot of people heartache had a common sense approach been implemented from the get go.
