Network File explorer

Post by beccsjb »

G'day People,

Well my thought for a handy app would be to have some sort of Network/Local File explorer available to use in the GUI of our Asustor NAS devices.
The idea came to me because i have an older 2 bay ReadyNAS DUO and am trying to transfer 4TB worth of media from it to my new 6 Bay Asustor NAS.

As far as i can see the only way to do this is on a pc/mac open both shares and copy and paste files from one to the other, the biggest drama with this being that the data has to both transmit and receive through the computer im using which i think is just a bottle neck.

Has anyone found another way to do this other than requiring an app for it?

What are other peoples thoughts?

Thanks guys

To be honest: From my point of view I don't see the need for such an App - because I think the File Explorer already offers what you are looking for: Select your desired target share, then click on Action >> Upload and enter the UNC path pointing to the 2 bay ReadyNAS DUO folder containing the 4TB. Before doing so verify that you log into your Asustor machine using the same user name that the ReadyNAS machine grants permission to for the share / folder in question!

Or: How about using Backup & Restore to get the thing done? Once the backup job succeeded you can delete it as well as the data on your older 2 bay ReadyNAS DUO...
