Help, want to create a share on an external drive?

Post by fantic »

I'm trying to create a share on an external drive connected through USB.
Creating a Share does not allow you to selct a USB disk and on top of that the USB drive is immediately turned into a share by itself, but I want to create 2 shares on 1 USB dirve.and I don't like the share name USB2.

I tried creating a symbolic link, however that does not allow you to create a slink in the Share directory.

Help!!

I think that's the behavior on purpose.
You can try to create a symlink (for example, dev_link) under a new shared folder, for example, test. You can access USB device with the path test\dev_link through samba protocol. Of course, that's adding one directory level. (You'll need to modify smb.conf to add "follow symlinks=yes" and "wide links=yes".)

That is about the same as adding the folder of the actual share I want to the USB drive and adding my files and folders there, resulting in USB3\eBook\ and just make sure to map the drive to that path, but that still does not resolve the issue that I add another layer.
