Because an ASUSTOR NAS is built on Linux, the probability of attacks are low. This is the reason why many have purchased an ASUSTOR NAS. Recently, there have been documented attempts to attack NAS devices with ransomware. In order to avoid losing data, please take the following actions to ensure data security.
- Make sure ADM is up to date to receive the latest in security fixes.
- Locking the default administrator account and creating another administrator account under a different name.
- Using a strong password for your account.
- Turn on ADM Defender and set a blacklist and whitelist.
- Turning off SSH and Terminal services
- Avoiding preset port numbers for needed services in ADM. Attacks usually rely on the default port numbers as it is easier to guess. Brute forcing wastes time.
- Formatting volumes as Btrfs to enable.
ASUSTOR always recommends that the best protection is to maintain regular backups and not clicking suspicious links in web pages and emails.
