I have processes accessing disks that aren't supposed to and I cannot trace the problems down if I cannot tell what they are doing.

Re: atop iotop iftop
Install entware-ng from App Central. After that you can use opkg package manager:
Code: Select all
opkg update
opkg install iftop
opkg install iotop-

# iotop
Could not run iotop as some of the requirements are not met:
- Linux >= 2.6.20 with
- I/O accounting support (CONFIG_TASKSTATS, CONFIG_TASK_DELAY_ACCT, CONFIG_TASK_IO_ACCOUNTING)

Indeed. Sorry, I didn't check. I assumed that if package is available for my platform, it should be working.

It's 2023 and as a new user I'd also like this to be supported in the kernel. It's quite impossible to find where disk activity is coming from.

Now, in 2025, iotop is still installable but not running?
My output is:
root@FS6706T-NAS:/volume1/.@root # iotop
Could not run iotop as some of the requirements are not met:
- Linux >= 2.6.20 with
- I/O accounting support (CONFIG_TASKSTATS, CONFIG_TASK_DELAY_ACCT, CONFIG_TASK_IO_ACCOUNTING)
root@FS6706T-NAS:/volume1/.@root # uname -a

Re: atop iotop iftop
Hi,
===== FIRST NEVER FORGET ... a NAS IS NOT a standard Linux distro. ... It's an embedded Linux limited by concept.
Entware is not only for Asustor but for lot of NAS and system ... ex. original for Openwrt
The problem is not iotop itself, it's the missing kernel options need by iotop on all system.
... ADM 5.0 with kernel 6.6.x have the kernel option set ... so Entware (opkg) iotop run as well
... for ADM 4 kernel 5.13.x NOT
If this kernel modules can be generated as modules ... it's not complicated (I will check when I have some time)
it's also but for expert to change kernel (if it's not some modules) and regerate a firware update ... but risky and forgetting ADM upgrade (change will be reintroduce)
Philippe.
