Please add support for any reputable vpn service!
It would be awesome if there was a app for a service like private internet access or pure vpn. If possible please add support for this. I'm sure the companies would be happy to work on it with you.

I am not sure if I have undestood your question or not. But, there is VPN-support both for your hosting needs, and for you to connect to.
If you want to create a VPN-tunnel via your server, download the VPN app from the App-central.
If you want to connect your server to a VPN-server, do this via the settings app.

I mean like a VPN app that people use to protect your identity. For example private internet access or Pure VPN. I know that the NAS supports open vpn but unfortunately there is a ton of stuff that you cant do if you dont have an official app. For example you can not port forward and you can not use a dedicated ip address with their service while using open VPN.

I'd vote for purevpn. i use them and they seem to do a decent job. not sure how "reputable" they are. but they are inexpensive.

The settings app for VPN simply doesn't work with any commercial VPN services requiring a wdc.key / cert.crt pairs in OpenVPN.Falken wrote:I am not sure if I have undestood your question or not. But, there is VPN-support both for your hosting needs, and for you to connect to.

I know very well since i spent days trying to make it work.
Even opened a ticket with Asustor who answered, guess what, to use the settings app (from what they wrote looked to me like they didn't even read [or understood] the content of the ticket), but with them it's what it is....
Anyway, you can use whatever VPN service you want with manual configuration; there's some topic here on the forum for that.

If you own a series 2/3/6 Asustor it's very likely you won't get XBMC 13.x/Kodi.
But easily you'll end buying a kitchen from UK.

Re: Please add support for any reputable vpn service!
So, I got Asustor working with PureVPN. What a pain. I'll be posting a document soon on how to do it. I have one problem. When the VPN is created I can no longer connect to the NAS box. Does anyone know if its possible to configure the NAS to route some traffic through the VPN while leaving other traffic available for direct connect. There are really only a couple of things i'd like to go through the VPN.
the other thing that would work for me is if the myasustor.com DDNS used the VPN IP address and not the physical IP. At least then i could find my nas on the network
thanks in advance.

That is the way: you can find your NAS from WAN using the myasustor.com DDNS.aenigmainc wrote:So, I got Asustor working with PureVPN. What a pain. I'll be posting a document soon on how to do it. On local LAN you should be able to reach you NAS without problems.
I tried to do what you say (bind ONLY some traffic to the VPN while using the tun0 while keeping all the other to the eth0) without any success. Last year there has been a 'ping-pong' thread on the tipic with mafredi trying to help me.
I advice you to keep the ADM/Network Defender on because when you use a VPN (expecially the one by PureVPN) your machine is directly exposed to the net, without a firewall or a NAT to mediate the transactions; my log reports continued hits by guys trying to connect to my nas.
Le me know if managed to use Asustor VPN App to connect (in OpenVPN, not PPTP) or did a manual configuration with scripts and so on.
Cheers.

Re: Please add support for any reputable vpn service!
Attached is a pdf that describes my setup. I included detailed directions on the config, and how to test that its working, and how to test performance.
I used 7-zip because I couldn't attach a file with a .pdf extension.
I use an option to log because I was using the log when troubleshooting. You can just delete that entry if you want, or comment it out if you want to use it later.
this uses openVPN, not PPTP. And they really don't need an app, though if someone wrote one it would make it easier.
I am not an OpenVPN expert. if someone has suggestion on how to improve it please let me know. I'm always open to suggestions.
