XBMC

Post by MikeG.6.5 »

Can we PLEASE get the XBMC forum moved to the archives and not in the active apps sections? It's dead, and the fact that people are still posting in it gets rather frustrating to have to try answering their questions time and time gain.

It would also be a really good idea to scrub references to XBMC from the marketing material for the AS-20XX & AS-30xx NAS's. These machines are still stocked and marketed as XBMC capable boxes.

Those who are new to the world of NAS (just like we all were once) have no reason to believe that XBMC won't run well. It is promoted as one of the virtues of those lines. It's usually only after buying the NAS and outfitting it with 1 or more disks that you become aware of some strange problem with Intel not providing drivers, etc and Asustor saying they are working on it - and have been since the day these products were released.

Asustor and other entry level NAS manufacturers obviously haven't taken the battle to Intel with much enthusiasm. Would you alienate the foremost supplier of SoC's for this market? Would any NAS manufacturer jeapordize their corporate pricing and support so recklessly? It's a classic damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

I got over the uselessness of XBMC pretty quickly. There are good alternatives that will run on the 20XX & 30XX but it certainly isn't the all in one solution that the Asustor marketing department told us we were buying.

My AS-204TE is a great little box within it's capabilities. It didn't cost much in the big scheme of things and is well built, well supported and has a constantly evolving OS. It just isn't an XBMC box.

That HDMI port on the back of your AS-20XX & 30XX NAS? It is the crackerjack prize in the bottom of the box. Amusing but pretty useless.

I second the suggestion to move the XMBC sub forum to the archives. Also please remove references to XMBC from marketing materials for the AS-20XX & 30XX series. Let the whole XBMC thing RIP.
