Hi everyone,
this is my first Asustor Nas (5110T), really very well done the management interface and considerable development potential but there is a limit that is unacceptable to me, a Nas priority must do nas, safeguarding of data and access to them must come before any work other function.
After several experiments and simulations fault I arrived in the state to have a whole set (5x3TB R5) with 9TB data "inactive" (quiet, I still have the originals on the old Thecus n7510), the situation is equivalent to enter the set in a device already initialized not having the original volume1.
The set is intact and data are present, I can mount the volume with simple commands (mdadm / mount) directly on nas but not hang up on ADM, reading between the various posts I realized that the only way "by design" is reset the volume and re-import the data from the backup operation .... very long and frankly annoying knowing that the data is already there.
I note that the Thecus, much more spartan and cumbersome to manage, does not suffer from this limitation. (I can create different sets, remove its discs and store them, create new ones, then replace the old with no problem (making it unnecessary to the function "myArchive", limited to individual disks).
If I'm wrong and there is a way to hang up the set would be useful to indicate clearly to people like me who are not familiar with Linux systems derived, otherwise this is a feature that absolutely MUST be implemented as soon as possible], (competitors do not suffer of this lack).
Anyone who decides to go to this family of devices, keep in mind that this limitation is not obvious, it written anywhere, (is implicit in the way the system handles volumes), for many it is not a limitation, but for those coming from other devices, it should be considered, or you could have unpleasant surprises if you decided to recover disk a little at a time while they empty ...
Thanks to anyone who wants to add a contribution or rectify the above.
Ivan

Re: Missing a simple way to re add an healthy volume marked as inactive
If I understand correctly, you removed volume1 and tried to access data on volume2, right? Should it be working when you put back volume1 and volume2 disks (turn off, then on)?
And do you mean your volume2 is gone after certain operations, even if volume1 is back to system? In this case, I believe you should send a support request to asustor. They should be able to recover your data on volume2 back. http://support.asustor.com/

Hello Orion,
I answered you in the post (http://forum.asustor.com/viewtopic.php?f=97&t=6038);
I'm sure that technical support can re-Mount or re-Add the volume (as it is intact, and the data are present) ... so why not allow this possibility directly in ADM (no need to go through the technical support)?

Re: Missing a simple way to re add an healthy volume marked as inactive
Hello to all,
I contacted tech support to ask if it is possible to re-import a RaidSet healthy but inactive so that it can be managed via the interface, or if such possibility will be given in the future.
in practice the answer is NO, I quote:
Hi Ivan,
Thanks for contacting us.
For the question you mentioned, no, the second volume can only be used with the first volume when its created.
You could connect via ssh and mount it manually to see the content of it as you mentioned,
however you can't add it to another system volume since some configuration was written in system volume when the second volume was created.
Please don't be hesitate to contact if you got further question.
Best regards.

then:
KEEP IN MIND THIS LIMITATION if you are from units of competitors (at least for me it was not clear before purchase); in most cases it is not a big deal, but it must be taken into account before proceeding to manipulate in any way the volumes or if you need to transfer them to another device already initialized.
Bye
