Two enhancements that would greatly benefit those of us using a NAS as their media center:
1) Update Kodi. Not only is 15.0 now available since last week, but even the 14.x version used isn't up-to-date (latest is 14.2). 14.2 has a lot of bugfixes over 14.0, hopefully including one that would resolve Kodi crashing for me if I configure it to set the display resolution to match that of the played content.
2) Update the Remote application to add Lirc support, especially with the mceusb driver. This would allow us to use virtually any Media Center remote. Those of us with a universal remote will then be able to allocate more than just the 10 buttons supported by the Asustor remote - that button mapping is missing quite a few important buttons, such as the Menu button. I had to manually modify the remote config file to map the Settings button to the Menu function, otherwise you can't access any of the functions available in Kodi's contextual menus.
I tried to get Lirc through Optware/Entware, but neither has the mceusb driver (since it's kernel-specific).

Kodi LiRC update.
Bump,
This is something more needed urgently, Optware/Entware already have has Lirc, but it does not include the kernel modules needed to actually handle the needed protocols.
If Asustor could do us the decency to at least provide us with Lirc + the Microsoft Media Center (RC5) driver, then we'd be able to have a much more comfortable remote setup for using either a cheap RC5-compatible remote or a full-featured Logitech Harmony.
This is an important issue and one knows of a few dozen people who are looking else where with NAS choices as they want one with better facilities at such a basic level as they are needing one that provides both storage and Home media centre.
Surely it would not take much to just add the repositories and kernals for LiRC and MCE as already very well established in LInux community and just need adding into the updates.

Yes, asustor has the worst supported NAS system ever. I'm still sorry I bought one. Even qnap is better, turns out. I had one earlier. Also netgear seems better. But probably ALL other up to date NAS hardware is fine. Best is to just build your own debian-based server.
