Switch to multimedia mode through mobile app

Post by h4nny »

Hi, small suggestion. Switch to multimedia mode through mobile app - AiMaster ( best option) or different even new one dedicated only for this. It will be great. Now i'm doing this through my desktop which is upstairs, nas in a living room.

Maybe this option is already somewhere, but unfortunately I was not able to found it ;)

As I know, there are no existed mobile apps that we can do it. However, this setting is one time setup (nas will reboot). Maybe, it's the reason that we cannot find this setting in mobile apps. I won't switch multimedia mode on and off all the time.

What I understand is the setting on ADM page -> Settings -> General -> Media Mode (only for as-2 and as-3 series).

I own a as-304t. This mode will consume more DDR memory for media playback applications (XBMC, Soundgood, ...etc.). I have to enable it all the time. :)

Hi all
I think in media mode my as204T is more noisy ;) - fan is setup to auto. My home cinema is also able to play mkv's so in most of the time AS isn;t in media mode. But if i want to use media mode on AS i have to start my pc and turn it on ;)

Maybe there is small chance to add this in AiMaster in menu togehter with shutdown, sleep mode etc.

My as-304t is quiet. :D The other alternative way for your case is to set FAN speed to low. FAN will rotate faster only if temperature reaches hardware limit, as I heard from asustor support.
Cheers.

Not more then the explanation ADM itself give for the setting. "In Media mode the NAS reserves memory for certain APPS"
If you run it as mediacenter with XBMC you should enable this. XMBC is memory hungry.

But i don't think there is a real need to have to switch this on and off constantly. If you use your Asustor as mediacenter, it still functions as NAS in the same way as when the media mode is disabled.
Only concern is that in mediamode, if you have a lot of apps installed, the apps may get slower cause there is less memory available for the other apps to run. But don't expect much happening in normal use. Most apps are sleeping anyway. Maybe if you are running XBMC and also running some torrent tasks in the background it may get into problems.

You can always check the health monitor in ADM to see how your system is handling the memory load.

So if you use XBMC, enable the Mediamode and keep it enabled..
