AS-202TE or AS-204TE / external backup

Post by hans0 »

Hi

Need to decide between this 2 NAS.
I want to backup my NAS with an external USB drive. With the AS-202TE and 2x4TB Disks i need a external 4GB drive, so its like a 1:1 Mirror, that would be no problem.
If i have the AS-204TE, lets say, starting with 2x3TB disks, and upgrade later with another 3TB disk (from Raid 1 to Raid 5 should be possible?) than i have a total of 6TB, add another disk, than 9TB.
My Question, if i use the Backup tool, it is possible to split between 2 external drives somehow automatically? Since i could not currently backup more than 4TB with an external USB drive. They exists some with more than 4TB, which have 2 drives , but they cost a lot, probably even cheaper to buy another NAS just for backup.
Or can i split them manually, lets say, folder1 to the USB drive 1, folder2 to USB drive 2, and so on ....

thanks
Hans

Yes, you can do raid migration from raid-1 to raid-5, and of course, add / expand the raid-5 disks to increase volume size.
I don't know if there are tools to archive your data to multiple USB drives. However it's quite easy to backup your data by specifying the folders (or files) manually.
