Timed Sleep and Wake on Access

- The sleep timer on the KD20 can be configured from the web interface->Settings->general tab.

- I'm glad jumbo frames work for you. But in my testing the largest frame the Asustor would accept is 4K (no matter how large the Asustor MTU was set). A server on the same switch handled all MTU's I sent (2k-9k).
- I agree... The power scheduling and WOL functions seem to work as designed, but it's not a practical solution for my (and apparently many others) implementation and needs.


I'm still very impressed with the Asustor. In fact I sold my Shuttle KD20 today. The Asustor price/performance/features just can't be beat.

When I posted this request I hoped Asustor would comment on the topic and possibly give an indication if the "sleep timer/wake on access" feature might be (or could be) on their development road-map.

Hi All,
It will be a perfect solution for user to save energy and reduce costs while still ensuring full access to the NAS, if we support wake on demand, timed Sleep with ASUSTOR System Sleep Mode (S3).
The truth is we've been looking an alternative to support wake on demand in any network environment, but all of them have some limitation.
To make a long story short, we will definitely keep an eyes on this topic!

I add my feedback.

For me, in the current state, the sleep mode is not very usefull. Let me explain.

Sleeping mode:
- it seems to be a good idea to schedule the sleep mode during the night. But if you do that, the NAS will enter in sleep mode in any case, even if it's currently used. No chance if you are backing up or reading a video!
- I even don't expect to ask to my users to enter to ADM to activate it
- I don't expect no more to go to my technical area (where the NAS is located) to push the button
So the conclusion is just logical:
--> the sleep mode must be AUTOMATIC after a delay of INACTIVITY (idem hibernation)

Wake up:
- currently the only possible way is to use a WakeOnLAN utility (magic frame)
- and no, I don't want to push the button (see above)
Conslusion:
--> wake up on ACCESS

Just another thing, cut & paste from the Asustor website:

is a bit misleading no?

Indeed, in business environment, you will not expect the user to do it unless you are the admin. But at home, the sleep function is very handy for me though. I can wake up the nas by remote control, aimaster, ADM, ACC.
