Mail server refuses connection

Post by Shedder »

Hi.
After a lot of help, I was able to get the "Community Shed" website up and running.
For at least a month now, it has been working with only a few glitches.

And then the mail stopped working.
I use Thunderbird to collect mail from my various email accounts, including the Asustor's "Shed" mail.
Then one day it just refused connection.
I stopped trying to connect for a few days, but no joy.
I deleted the account in Thunderbird (Linux user) and then set up a "new" account. This time, Thunderbird found no such mail account.

At a bit of a loss here
I'm sure this happened a while back, and I had to reset something in the control panel, but getting old and forgetful, I can't remember what.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

It seems to be working fine, I can still login and list the mails using the temp account you created the other time, refer screenshot below:

Check anything that's blocking your client (PC) to the domain:port? Try on your mobile network i.e. tether or using the mobile phone client.

Hi again Nazar
I thought no-one had answered, but went in on the possibility that the "Notify" wasn't working...
Bugger!
I managed to again muddle through and reset things, but now it's doing the same for "Mike".
I have his laptop here, same problem.
It worked when we were 6 miles away in a cafe, now I'm home with it, Thunderbird can't see the domain.

Yeah, the SPAM lately is horrendous, probably they're throttling the notifications.

But can you access the website?

I can access the website, both via 192.168,blah,blah and via ezconnect.to.
What I can't do is look at what the mail server as to it's permanently "Loading" - well actually it gives up after 5 minutes and closes.

It could be possible that your router doesn't support NAT loopback a.k.a. hairpin NAT. That is when both of your laptop and NAS is connected to the router on the same premise, it doesn't know how to route the packets that's originating from the laptop to the NAS via the port forwarding. For this you can't do much but to upgrade to a more capable router. So the only way now to access while you're on the same network as the NAS is to connect the laptop tethered to your mobile network, which is similar to when you're in the cafe using their Wi-Fi.
