I am new | And I have a NAS issue

Post by Moluccan »

## Introduction ##

Hi Eugene here.
I am (was) the proud owner of a Asustor AS5002T ( 2x Western Digital Red 3.0TB) since August 2016.
Three weeks ago I updated my NAS with the latest ADM version, I can't remember the version number.
Disk (NAS) setup is Mirror.

## Big issue for the first time ##

Last weekend I was working on my desk and I had to stop the NAS:
- so I shutted down my NAS through the menu, like I always do.
- after all the thinks I had to do:
# I started my NAS but nothing happens
# only the 2x LAN- and 2x DISK- lights were blinking
# the green light of the USB External Port, also blinks after pushing it
# power button also works, turning ON or OFF
# I also don't see the Motherboard-Information-Screen passing by, things like F2 or DEL to start the BIOS

Actions I did trying to solve it:
- try to use the external reset button
- opened the NAS and vacuum cleaned it
- removed the 2x 4GB Internal Memory and started the NAS
- try to start the NAS also without the Western Digital Disks
- replaced the internal battary ( so I had to pull out the whole Motherboard)
- I forgot if a BEEP should be there after turning the NAS ON or OFF, I don't hear a BEEP

## Is my NAS Dead YES or NOT ##
- can the power adapter be the problem, which adapter is a good replacement

- if my NAS is dead, how can I access my data
# buying a new Asustor NAS and just connect both 2x WD Red disks?????
# or is there a other solution, I thought I have read something about setting up a Ubuntu environment and just mount the disk

I hope some Forum members will have some good advices :)

Thanks Eugene

Thank you for your fast reply.

I have found the issue in the dust-bag.

No it isn’t working yet, so I still don’t have access to my data.

Did you see the blue power LED turn on and the green status LED is blinking? If no, that should be a hardware issue. I think you should contact to asustor support: https://support.asustor.com/

And, of course, you should be able to access your data on both a new Asustor NAS or a PC with Ubuntu.
  • A new Asustor NAS: simply insert these 2 old disks to the new NAS, then power on. Your data should be ready to access. However you'll need to check AppCentral to see if there are applications need to be updated.
  • A PC with Ubuntu: try to let Ubuntu to detect RAID volume. If it's not working, you can use commnand "mdadm --assemble" to create md device, then mount it. (Oh, you should apply partition 4 within mdadm command syntax.)

Orion, thank you for your information and those two led’s are not blinking.

I also tried a other power adapter of my brother’s Asustor NAS and this is also not the issue.

Hi,
it's just a speculation, but if I found the correct information, AS5002T is powered by Intel Celeron J1800, which is affected by the issue described for example here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvermont#Erratum :
"... affected systems "may experience inability to boot or may cease operation" ... The LPC, USB and SD Card buses circuitry degradation issues also apply to other Bay Trail processors such as ... and Celeron J1800 ..."
