Have I fallen for the advertising? (emby>hdmi>Web browser)?

Bringing all of your media together into one place has never been easier. Your Emby Server automatically converts and streams your media on-the-fly to play on any device.

Have I fallen for the advertising? (emby>hdmi>Web browser)?

Post by Valleyboy44 »

Hi All,

Had my AS6302T for 3 days, all excited, updated. Installation a dream, I wanted a NAS with HDMI for 90% media server duties.

Installed Emby (my favourite) ran fine from LG TV app, then I remembered silly boy connect HDMI...

Right main question, I'm not a totally tech newbie but this may come across that I am..

Connected to the NAS fine via HDMI port 3 on LG TV, added the pack so it shows up on the TV dashboard.. So... There I was thinking HDMI direct to emby on the NAS but you have to login to the web browser.... So what's the point of HDMI or have ai totally got the wrong end of the stick and completely and utterly drop the ball?

Does the standard Asustor media player have to be utilised to run direct HDMI?

Again sorry if I sound like a total idiot...

I'm just a bit... Deflated...

Any suggestions?

Thank you

You installed Emby in NAS that is actually server, rather than player. As ilike2burnthing recommended, you'll need to install Portal app in NAS and remote app in your phone.
Then, you can installed certain players (for HDMI display):

right ive had a look at your suggestions, i dont think ive been clear.

ive installed PORTAL APP and control this via bluetooth mouse, it appears on my LG TV connected via HDMI

ive installed emby app on the portal.

my question being, why does the portal connect to emby via web when it should in theory connect to the nas emby server direct via HDMI? (over web it is streaming when should it go direct via hdmi?)

that is my point, or is this not possible. (or do i have my wires totally crossed)

what is the point of using HDMI when I mayaswell use the LG TV emby app

i note your valued point "You installed Emby in NAS that is actually server, rather than player"

could you please elaborate?

all my movie files are on the NAS uner the root media folder.

What address is it connecting to in the browser? 127.0.0.1? If so, then it is connecting directly to the NAS, and using a webUI.

ah ha!

sir you are a genius..

when i connect to the emby server on the NAS via my PC it is showing "http://192.168.1.88:8096/web/index.html#!/network" in the browser window

the server settings in the emby app on the Asustor Portal connected via HDMI should NOT be the above?

on the server setting page it says HOST - what address would I put in?

192.168.###.### is a local network address, so it's also connecting directly, just via your LAN. 127.0.0.1 is localhost. Both of those are your internal network, not the (world wide) web.

Try 127.0.0.1 first, if not, then 192.168.1.88.

All is well!

thank you...just confirming (sorry)

if i use the server setting of 127.0.0.1 in the portal emby setting it will connect via hdmi not over the network?

i dont want to confuse things...
