How change the booting device to USB Drive

Post by mgcan »

Hi Guys,

I have Asustor AS-604T and want to install Linux on it, for an experiment. How I can change the booting from USB stick.

As per specification, I know Asustor hadware supports windows and Linux operating system.

Kindly let me know the steps to change the booting from USB.

Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Never tested on your series / model ... but on AS-5002T
Try as usual :
connect keyboard (Qwerty is generally better) / screen
connect USB bootable key with your Linux (ex. live USB Ubuntu)
cold boot (not reboot) and press key for BIOS ... generally "Del" or "F2" but this can change ... and change boot order or select boot device for a one shot boot on.

After you can have problem to solve to use Xorg if your model use an HD Intel I.G.P. if it's a re-branded SGX (no driver) as for my AS-202T ... always use Vesa to start AND add immediately SSH server to keep access in case off black screen at reboot..

Philippe.

Hi Philippe,

Looks like 'Del' or 'F2' does not work with my model. I am not getting BIOS screen after cold boot.

Thank,
Manoj

Ask Asustor support ... for any recovery they need to be able to change Bios boot device ...

I don't know but is it a 32 bits model ?, please do : uname -a in a terminal. IF it is ... I can do test with my "old" AS202T to see difference with AS5002T.

Philippe.
NB I have free time next week ... so if 32 bits, be patient for my return.

Hi Philippe,

Below is the result of command : uname -a

admin@AS-604T:/volume1/home/admin $ uname -a
Linux AS-604T 3.12.20 #1 SMP Tue Oct 29 00:21:03 CST 2019 x86_64 GNU/Linux

hope it helps.

Also I created ticket for Asustor support on Nov 4th, but they did not replied yet.

Thanks for your help.
