[MH-kodi19 / MH-kodi18 / MH-kodi17] how-to get last version

myHD is an isolated (namespace (mnt, IPC, PID)) Ubuntu environment to run Ubuntu application displayed as ASUSTOR Asportal / Xorg applications.

[MH-kodi19 / MH-kodi18 / MH-kodi17] how-to get last version

Post by father.mande »

Hi,

Just to remember to you (after some questions ... )
Kodi18 or Kodi19 used the INTERNAL UBUNTU update mechanism base on official Kodi PPA

Kodi18 use by default (if you not change it) Unstable PPA ... actual version (after update of Ubuntu) is : 18.3+git20190621.1610-final-0bionic
Kodi19 use by default (but for now only) Nightly build PPA actual version is : 19.0+git20190807.0203-2b14719-0bionic
This are update using myHD command : myHD apt_upgrade_package

Kodi17 is not provide using PPA but directly recompile at last version (cohabit with kodi18 or kodi19 with separate settings) : 17.6+git20171114.2125-final

Philippe.
N.B. This Kodi versions will be cancelled due to the arrival of new APKG permitting a better support (no more need to add myHD in the middle) ... Thanks to Patrick

I've updated myHD to 1.01

I had Kodi 18.3 running before that, I can't remember how I did the update from 18.1 to 18.3, but I think I used sudo.

Now Kodi shows 18.3 when I start it, but myHD claims that 18.1 is installed.

Using myHD apt_upgrade_package did do some Python upgrades, but no Kodi upgrade.

As far as I'm aware Kodi 18.4 is current, how do I get it?

Dirk

Hi,

Yes it's a display problem.
I have to add a permanent test of real Kodi version in Ubuntu and report to myHD, but it's difficult to change the APKG version (somewhere in the NAS under Asustor responsibility) .
So I have to imagine a solution for this mismatch (for ex. in MH-kodi19 ... I don't report a version for the APKG ... only 19
for MH-kodi18 ... I put the version available when I write MH-kodi18 ... so APKG stay in 18.1 but don't reflect reality.

To get correct version please use : myHD_root "dpkg -l kodi"

I will work on this ... please be patient.

Philippe.
NB from my AUS Zenfone ... I am in trekking

Thank you Philippe,

"dpg -l kodi" shows that I have 18.3 installed.

According to this web page http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/201 ... ntu-18-04/ , there should be a kodi 18.4 for Ubuntu.

How can I install it, myHD apt_upgrade_package doesn't work.

Hi,

Normally after a delay (and perhaps linked to the Ubuntu repository I used) you can retry update (I suppose that when you write "myHD apt_upgrade_package doesn't work." this is only to said : it don't upgrade Kodi not a real not working at all ? )

Another possibility if retry don't update can come from Kodi that don't update the repository
... I used the beta & release candidate repository and not the stable
... you can try to follow Kodi wiki to change repository from this to the stable one ... in lot of case a simple update is enough in some case an uninstall reinstall is require ... in this situation :
... .... don't forgot to reinstall addons (binary) from Ubuntu repo. not manually installed
... ... all your settings are saved ... so you don't have to reconfigure

Same if you want to update to Kodi19, just change the repo from beta to nightly build repo.

Philippe.
NB I am only in mine during short time up to middle of next week ...

Thanks Philippe,

Yes, of course "myHD apt_upgrade_package" worked, just not for Kodi.

However, I did succeed in installing Kodi 18.4, and this is how I did it:

myHD enter_as_root

apt-cache policy | grep team-xbmc (I got no response)

add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
response:
Official Team Kodi stable releases
More info: https://launchpad.net/~team-xbmc/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
plus a whole list of hit + get

apt-get update
normal output

apt-cache policy | grep team-xbmc
result:
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages
release v=18.04,o=LP-PPA-team-xbmc,a=bionic,n=bionic,l=Kodi stable,c=main,b=amd64

apt-get remove kodi
expected result

apt-get install kodi
expected result

After this I had Kodi 18.4

Hi,

Yes ... good
If you return back to "beta & candidate release" later you can upgrade to Kodi19 without change ...

For the moment Kodi19 is in nightly build repo.

Thanks to write the how-to, I am in travel (trekking) so I am limited to Internet connection.

Dear Philippe, I hope you doing well !

Since years I use your myHD namespace with more or less issues but it rocks ! many thanks and congrats to you awesome job.

Since yesterday I started to clean my NAS and unfortunately I removed myHD from the asustor app center. I reinstalled it but no KODI is installed in the namespace... Weed no ?

what I have actually is :

Code: Select all

root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD list_all_installed_apkg
==== LIST installed MH16/18/20/I companion applications installed AND APKG version
Applications installed BUT not in Web Store list
==== End of list
No big deal I will install the MH-kodi19 by doing a:

Code: Select all

myHD get_App_available
and as result I have

Code: Select all

root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD get_App_available
==== list of myHD companion applications available for installation in Ubuntu 2004

APKG : MH-test Store Version : 1.9.9 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 0.9.4 Actual : 2.1 Comment : User terminal (astr)

APKG : MH-kodi18 Store Version : 18.1 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 0.9.4 Actual : 2.1 Comment : Last Ubuntu Kodi18

APKG : MH-kodi19 Store Version : 19 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 0.9.4 Actual : 2.1 Comment : Change icon after internal update from Kodi18

APKG : MH20-pmp Store Version : 2.58.0 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 1.0.0 Actual : 2.1 Comment : Plex Media Player

APKG : MH-chrome Store Version : 1.1 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 0.9.4 Actual : 2.1 Comment : last stable version for Ubuntu

APKG : MH-kaku Store Version : 2.0.2.1 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 0.9.4 Actual : 2.1 Comment : Deb install for Ubuntu

APKG : MH-netflix Store Version : 1.0 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 0.9.4 Actual : 2.1 Comment : Netflix through Chrome (same as MH-chrome)

APKG : MH-primevideo Store Version : 1.0 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 0.9.4 Actual : 2.1 Comment : PrimeVideo through Chrome (same as MH-chrome)

APKG : MH-spotify Store Version : 1.0 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 1.0.0 Actual : 2.1 Comment : Spotify through Chrome (same as MH-chrome)

APKG : MH-stremio Store Version : 4.4.52 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 1.0.2 Actual : 2.1 Comment : Stremio use CTRL-x to exit and Wait install is long (12 mn on AS5002T)

APKG : MH-vlc-A Store Version : 3.0.18 is NOT installed
======= for myHD >= 2.0 Actual : 2.1 Comment : Vlc 3 AppImage for Asportal
Great then let's install the
MH-kodi19
And here is my "problem"

Code: Select all

root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD start
YES and myHD run with Systemd (jinit mode)
Start not authorized myHD already running
Good ! it's running

Code: Select all

root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD install_App_from_store MH-kodi-20
Hum! you don't provide the version to install ??? check using : /usr/local/bin/myHD get_App_available
root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD install_App_from_store
Hum! you don't provide APKG_NAME and version as argument (MH/MH18/MH20/MHI-yyyyyy)

Shit shit, ho yes the "version" should be more than 4.x.x

Code: Select all

root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # uname -r
5.4.x
Goood it is

Code: Select all

root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD install_App_from_store kodi-20
Hum! you don't provide the version to install ??? check using : /usr/local/bin/myHD get_App_available
Damm ! :-D what am I missing ?
What is the procedure to install a KODI (if v20 the best) in the name space ? Or should I install it from an other way ?

Hi and thanks for the answer.

I again geeked the installation this evening and it did not goes well...
I tried the full uninstall using the command

Code: Select all

myHD uninstall_myHD
thinking it will clean everything.
afterthat I ran in ADM webstore a new installation of you app, using the store, not the .apk

and now I'm unfortunately stuck with... nothing at all.

Code: Select all

root@Muffin:/volume1/.@plugins/bin # myHD start
NO myHD don't run no more with systemd or with bash
ENABLE ... asportal is Enable
myHD start ... requested Fri Apr 28 00:54:21 CEST 2023
get keys from Asportal / get sound def.
myHD astr user exist ...
==== Check installation method
HUM! nothing in /usr/local/.myHD for version 2004
root@Muffin:/volume1/.@plugins/bin #

root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD switch_ubuntu_env 2004
You have choice to switch to Ubuntu 2004
Hum NOTHING to DO ... already using 2004
root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD list_ubuntu_env
Ubuntu version actually used :
myHD Ubuntu : 2004
root@Muffin:/volume1/.@root # myHD_root
Hum! seems that myHD is not started
Seems the new installation did not install everything back... weird.
at least it seams that I can only run the commands myHD. myHD_root doesn't give me any result

Many mans thanks in advance for the support and have a nice travel.
Pierre
