AS-602T does not detect HDD

Hi,

My AS-602T unit seems to have turned into a brick. This is what happened:

1. The unit was working fine, no issues. I had recently undated to ADM 3.2.3.RN1 (the latest one)
2. I wanted to factory reset the unit so I did this within ADM as the manual describes
3. After a reboot, the unit shows up in Control Center but I cannot initialize the unit. It says that it cannot detect any of my two disks
4. In Control Center, the unit is recognised as AS0000T-EB77, model AS0000T. Not AS602T as it should.

These are the things that I have noticed:

A. I can still login to the unit through SSH on LAN1. So the base system is working
B. I can attach my drives through the USB port and connect and mount it (using SSH and linux commands)
C. The unit gets an ip adress through the LAN2 interface
D. I have tried mounting though the SSH command line but they are not detected and are not listed using fdisk -l or any of the other linux commands
E. My drives are formated ext3 and as said, no problem mounting through the USB interface on the unit

Any idea what could be wrong? Is the unit shot, the SATA chip dead? Can it only be something wrong with the firmware that I am connecting to through SSH?

If it is the firmware, can I from the command line (SSH) update/reinstall 3.2.3.RN1. Or even a previous version maybe?

Please help, I really don't want to buy a new NAS. And it will not be Asustor if I have to buy a new one. I am unfortunately out of warrantee so RMA is not an option.

I have seen previous posts on the same topic but none with a solution.

I have contacted Asustor support, they only tell me that the unit is faulty. Seems to be a standard answer as I have seen the same answer from a post back in 2015.

since AS6 series support Hot-Swap, you may try take out the drive and put it back, observe the dmesg messages.
try
#01 : Hot-Swap Bays (I think the drives are connected to ata1,2 ports)
#02 : move your Drives to E-SATA Ports (don't use drive with data, the NAS may format your drive, your Drives in bay1,2 should be OK, already initialized)
#03 : USB Storage

I hear the HDD spinning up but nothing happens in the dmesg.

#02 Move to ESATA

I don't have that possibility as I don't have that kind of equipment.

Can I somehow install the ADM on the USB drive that the system acknowledges? Then I can maybe reinstall the firmware?

Or can I reinstall the firmware using ssh and command line?

Or is the SATA controller dead?

Hey man. Marco from ASUSTOR here. I talked it over with my colleagues and found that it is likely the SATA backplane may be on its way out. You may send us the NAS for repair or I can try to talk with personnel to send you the part. The part is replaceable. If you do it, we cannot bear any responsibility.
