Upgrade the LMS to 7.7.4

Logitech Media Server (formerly SlimServer, SqueezeCenter and Squeezebox Server) is a streaming audio server supported by Logitech (formerly Slim Devices), developed in particular to support their Squeezebox range of digital audio receivers. The software is designed for streaming music over a network, allowing users to play their music collections from virtually anywhere there is an Internet connection.

Upgrade the LMS to 7.7.4

Post by cncbb »

If you get knowledge on Linux, you can try to upgrade LMS to latest version manually.

- stop the Logitech Media Server via "App Center"
- remove all files under /usr/lcoal/AppCentral/lms/ssoas/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/*
- download latest full LMS unix tarball file (such as logitechmediaserver-7.7.4-1406106846.tgz) from URL - http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightl ... hp?ver=7.7
- upload LMS unix tarball file to your NAS
- extract the compressed file (such as tar xvzf file.tgz) to /usr/lcoal/AppCentral/lms/ssoas/var/home/SqueezeboxServer/
- start the Logitech Media Server via "App Center"
- same as LMS 7.7.2 which you are necessary to clear the library and rescan music file to create an empty database first
- restart the Logitech Media Server via "App Center" if necessary
- wait for LMS to complete scanning
- you can access SSOAS with following URL "http://NAS_IP:9099" to verify the status

Thanks for posting this, will definitely give it a go.

How about 7.8, will you be updating to that at some point?

thanks @cncbb

To add to this... you don't need any ssh to do this, you can:

Download the wanted version (just the perl tarbal version) from http://downloads.slimdevices.com/
e.g. http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightl ... 473400.tgz
or http://downloads.slimdevices.com/Logite ... -7.7.0.tgz (or the link pasted by cncbb above)
And rename the downloaded file from logitechmediaserver*.tgz to squeezeboxserver*.tgz (e.g logitechmediaserver-7.8.1-1407473400.tgz is renamed to squeezeboxserver-7.8.1-1407473400.tgz)

Access the ssods webpage (when LMS App is enabled) on http://NAS_IP:9099

Click Status, Stop (to stop LMS)

Then Go to tools, and select "upgrade Logitech Media Server"

Click "next"

You should now be at http://NAS_IP:9099/ssods/?cmd=Install_upload.
Option 1. Select the file saved previously and then select upload tarball or
Option 2. Copy the saved file to your Public network share. and then refresh the web browser.

Select this file in the list and select the option to upgrade to this version.

This should update, provide some update information and have an option to "Start Logitech Media Server". Select this and verify the LMS is now available at http://NAS_IP:9000

This method should support all versions including 7.8 (at this time). The key is to remember to rename to squeezeboxserver!

Hi All,

Some of you may find that this just says "website not found" then trying to upload the tgz file.
It appears there may be some limit on the size of files that can be uploaded!

The alternative is to copy the file into your public share (smb or nfs)

So, just copy the file squeezeboxserver-7.8.0.tgz to your Public share and this version will be available for update.

Also note there is s 7.9 beta available.

Many thanks to all - got 7.7.6 working - once I get my nerves working again will try 7.7.8 - great job all! Still no indication of playlist info or what track is playing. Also the Squeeze app for android does not work anymore.......

Still, I can at least pick some music but cant see what is playing anymore unless I run up two flights of stairs and review via pc as the web version seems to work ok......however even that version does not show the artwork on the now playing.....

***EDIT*** is it possible to delete the database and restart LMS? or do I need to delete LMS and re-install?? My problem being that the LMS resides on an Asustor AS5002T and the app supplied is not being updated - it is currently showing as 7.7.2 in BETA.

I have manually updated this to 7.7.6. Do I need to remove the existing LMS from the Asustor NAS and if so, do I just install the tgz file or do I need to d/l some other files? Thanks.

Sorted!
Deleted LMS from the NAS then re-installed the Beta 7.7.2 and everything works!!!! So happy!! Not going to upgrade the LMS now unless there are issues which force me to....

Apologies for hogging the forum and thanks to those who offered advice. Many thanks also to Clinton Hall for his help and advice.

Hi.
I have now tried to update Squeezeboxserver, but it failed.
I run a Windows 10 pc and ADM 2.6.6.RCF2 software.
I have downloaded the tgz file into the Public folder on the Asustor.
And now what?
I have also tried to unpak the file, and then it converts to a dir file instead of tgz file.
When I try to upgrade manually the Asustor asked for a AKP file??
