[Kodi 18.0] AS5202T/AS5304T package to support 4K 10bits videos

excellent, thank you very much for your work! At least someone is trying to solve the problems of video playback on these new devices....Asustor itself is not very keen of supporting what they have sold....

So, your package installs nicely on an AS5304T, and runs all 4k movies I have. Unfortunately, for most of the movies the playback is not smooth. The pic and the sound is in sync (which is already a big improvement), but the video playback is not smooth, the picture is not looking as it should. I have many different type of movies (all downloaded from the internet) and all has the same issue.

Anyway it is already a big improvement, the result is the best compared to anything I could find or support could suggest.

I think we should be more kindly to understand some difficulty in software or hardware companies.
There are many pattern and license in the world, and I don't think that all companies can offer them to support
for all users, since it may need to spend much money.

In this case, they cannot officially provide kodi, and same situation also existed in S and Q companies.
That's why they provide the solution for other developers to deliver some other open source software for users who needed.

I'm just interesting to do this kind of thing in my rest time, that's can let me learn more in different topic which is not related to my original job and task, and no pressure if I cannot deliver or find a good solution.

Hi,

ASUSTOR announce new models AS5202T and AS5304T and ADM 3.4 with kernel 4.14.
Equipped with intel CPU HW decode capability, I try to package kodi 18.0 to support 4K HEVC 10bits(HDR) videos playback.

Finally, kodi 18.0 package is ready for installing and testing.
After installing kodi 18.0, 4K HVEC 10 bits videos can playback well in AS5202T / AS5304T which cannot playback well in kodi 17.6.
P.S: DTS and AC3 can work in this package.

I don't have many 4K HEVC 10bits videos for testing, I cannot sure if this package can fulfill all your requirement or not.
Have a try if you have AS5202T/AS5304T.

The version can only work well for AS5202T/AS5304T, since intel CPU in other models may not have 4K HEVC 10bits HW decode capability.

I just keep to porting kodi 18.3 in case there may have some improvement from kodi team.

Note: The integration with ASUSTOR Remote controller and AiRemote App is related to ASUSTOR Portal.
I've contacted with ASUSTOR to get support for this, and thanks ASUSTOR to add kodi 18 support in ASUSTOR Portal.
The updated version of ASUSTOR Portal (2.2.4.r1216) is available on App Central.
Please update it to get ASUSTOR Remote controller and AiRemote App support in Kodi 18.

First of all thanks for you’re fine work. I have an AS5304T but do not get Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD to work. All other audio formats work. This happens when I enable audio throughput. Then all the sound disappears. I have the latest ADM 3.5.0 R5D3 and ASUSTOR Portal 2.2.4 r1216. I have a SAMSUNG 4K TV that support that.

Do you have any fix for this?

Do you mean "audio -> pass through"? It's used when you connected HDMI to an audio amplifier device which can decode those formats. Most of display devices don't support this function.

This is amazing. Thank you so much. Finally (well it only took me a week after buying my NAS) I can watch my Plex videos (kodi using plex add-on) without having to locally stream them in an out of date webbrowser with no codex support. (having to transcode mpeg4 nearly made me scream.)

Thank you for your efforts.
Have tested both kodi 17.6 and kodi 18 on my AS5202T.
There is no audio passthrough for my Denon AVR-X7200WA receiver.
