EZ-connect from LAN doesn't work

Post by asustorista »

I can't connect to my 5008 using the EZ address from computers on the same LAN as the server. Using IP-address works.
EZ works from outside world. (Tried with a laptop, LAN no EZ, wifi via phone or from another location EZ works... The browser says it can't find the site. Tried both http and https, using the right ports.

hi
check your router, there is a parameter to allow or not the use of internal devices with external addresses.

There is a router compatibility list for routers that will auto-configure for EZ-connect. Supposedly.

https://www.asustor.com/service/router?id=router

If yours is on that list, it should work without doing anything, according to Asustor of course.

When saying IP works do you mean <internal IP of NAS> or <external IP of router>:port ?

Now this auto-configuration thing smells like UPnP so this should be enabled as is not always the case with default options on many routers nowadays.

Just my 2c.

It depends on your router's capability. When you used EZ name, your browser will ask for the real IP address from DNS server. After your browser got "the external IP address", some routers will accept the address (because it knows the mapping external IP <--> local IP). However I should say it's not a normal way. It's only an extra capability on router.
The other possible way is that you set NAS's DNS server to your router. And your router can recognize you are in LAN, then give you the local IP address. That should should work too. However it's not a standard way either.
You can try to ping "EZ name" in a command window. It should show you more interested information.
