[Guide] Enable Authentication for Transmission

Post by Berazu »

To everyone who finds it difficult to enable the authentication for Transmission:

1. Disable Transmission in the App Central
2. Access NAS via SSH (preferably with PuTTY)
3. The settings file of Transmission is located in the following directory:

Code: Select all

/volume1/.@plugins/AppCentral/transmission/settings.json
4. Open the settings file with your preferred editor (vi is pre-installed, so I’ll just stick to it)

Code: Select all

vi /volume1/.@plugins/AppCentral/transmission/settings.json
5. Make sure to set "rpc-authentication-required" to “true”
6. Set a new password "rpc-password" (Default is: "admin", password will be encrypted after starting the service) and a new username if needed "rpc-username".
7. Save your file and start the Transmission service again.
8. When accessing the web interface you should be prompted with a login.

Hi!
I want to enable auth for web-interface.
I stopped service, connected through ssh, edited settings.json, enabled service, but nothing happens
No auth, no password encryption. I see through "top", that transsmission stops - no service and starts through app central.

What should I do for enable web-interface auth?

Transmission version 2.92

Thanks

Edit or delete:
/volume1/Download/.transmission/settings.json
AS-608T + 5 x ST4000VN000 (Seagate 4TB) in Raid5 + 3 GB RAM

Return to “transmission”
