2.0.0.r481 drain ressources

Photo Gallery is a dedicated web photo album that makes photo management easy. The interface is clean and concise with albums appearing in the album list consisting of a cover photo and 4 smaller thumbnail photos.

2.0.0.r481 drain ressources

Post by itdaboyz »

Hi,

Since I made the update to 2.0.0.r481 (http://forum.asustor.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7405), my NAS became really slow.
In the top process, I have up to 5 tasks named "convert" which use almost half of the CPU and RAM in total.
I can't stop these, as they pop under a new PID every time I kill one.

I believe it has something to do with the "After installed Photo Gallery 2.0 beta, all thumbnails will be re-generated again." but damn, you could make these things less greedy or allow the user to choose when to perform the process (night for exemple).

1) WTF Asustor ? :x
2) When this is going to end, assuming I have arround 1000 photos.

I have a AS302T with ADM 2.5.2.BDF1.

it is doing thumnnails. Once it is done, the cpu will back to normal. the Photo Gallery 2 runs quite well in my AS604T and the photo presentation speed is fast also. I like the style and speed!

Yeah so 1 full day when my NAS become unusable to convert 1000 thumbnails...
What if I had 20000 photos ? 20 days without my NAS ? That's crazy.

App Central in the Beta apps, at least on a 7004 and a 304. I would expect it would be there for all models.

Before seeing these comments, I added my ~48.000/149Gb photos to Photo Gallery 2.0.0.r936 on sunday morning. Sometime during night till tuesday it finished the thumbnail processing, seen by the convert tool appearing constantly on top of the process list. This was done on an AS5004T, and seemd to occupy 100%+50% of the two CPU cores, and lots of memory.

At least part of the data generated seems to end up in /volume1/.@thumbnail, which now contains a whopping 174.7Gb of data in ~325000 files.

One folder seems to be generated per image, with different variants of the image, OK, but pluss the image itself, unless I've missed out on something, see listing of one folder below. The filename for the image has the name "link", but I don't think it is just a link?

ASUSTOR: am I right in that a full copy of all the pictures is made, and is this the way it is supposed to work in a release version?

I am noticing something weird with my AS7004T(Intel i5). On fresh install of ADM (latest), I copied about 3,000 photos from my Laptop to my NAS PhotoGallery and when NAS CPU reached 100% the Laptop would lose connection to the NAS. (And this is repeatable) Prior to this happening, I was observing the running processes and could see the 'convert' process at high load.

Not sure what it is but its happening on latest. I wonder if anyone else has witness anything similar or can explain.

Thank you.

p.s. Copied over a few hundred movies (about 300... mostly ISOs) and same thing happens. So not sure what is going on.
